DAVID L. AGER, Ph.D.
David L. Ager is an Expert Affiliate at OMBI. Dr. Ager is also a Lecturer in the Sociology Department at Harvard University where he teaches courses on leadership, organizations, and qualitative field methods. He has also assisted in the development and delivery of several courses at the Harvard Business School, including the introductory MBA course in Leadership and the second year elective course in Strategic Human Resource Management.
Dr. Ager received his Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from Harvard University in June 2004. Trained as an organizational ethnographer, his dissertation is based on a three-year intensive field study of the post-merger integration of three mid-size software development firms. His current research focuses on how individual attitudes, social processes, and intergroup relations influence an organization’s attempts to realize the benefits of major change initiatives, such as mergers and acquisitions. In addition, he has recently embarked on a research stream that considers succession in family businesses.
Dr. Ager has written over two dozen case studies on companies located in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, as well as in Europe and Asia. In addition, he consults to several large multi-national firms from different industries including finance, high technology, biotechnology, and wholesale distribution. His consulting activities include leadership development, talent management, change management, team building, and succession planning.
Dr. Ager’s career has spanned the private, public and academic sectors. In addition to his Ph.D., he holds an Honors B.Sc. in Economics and Human Biology from the University of Toronto, an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario, and an A.M. in Sociology from Harvard University.
